Last Minute Getaway
We had the pleasure of staying at the Phoenix Park Hotel New Year’s weekend. It was a last- minute trip for my husband and I and after I searched and searched and searched some more, I came across this gem of a place. I am a bit of a germaphobe, so it takes me FOREVER to decide on a place to stay when we travel. Upon stepping into the Phoenix Park lobby, I was relieved to say the least.
The staff are extremely and genuinely pleasant. Check-in was a breeze and even though we arrived hours before check-in, they were able to get us right into a room. After checking in, we were given a map of the city and information of all of the things around us. The woman at the front desk even when as far and showing us exactly where we were on the map and circled restaurants and museums close by.
Once we got into the room, I did my usual inspection and again was relieved at how clean and bright and airy the room was. The shower was magical and the pressure was great and amazingly hot!! And not only did the mirror in the bathroom stay “steam free” it had incredible lighting for putting on make-up. The bed was also magical. I felt like I slept on a cloud. I hadn’t slept that hard in a long time.
The hotel offers complimentary coffee in the morning. I have to admit, I didn’t have high hopes for this. I was all set to hit up a Starbucks, but boy was I wrong. The coffee/espresso machine they have was fabulous! We went down multiple times it was so good! You could make anything you wanted (latte, macchiato, hot chocolate, mochas… EVERYTHING!!!) #Starbuckswho
Finally, attached to the hotel lobby is the gateway to Narnia…. The Dubliner. It’s this awesome Irish Pub where we ended up eating breakfast and ringing in the new year. I must say, it was the most random fun I’ve had in a long time! The food was great, the drinks are plentiful and there is live entertainment that is brilliant! I can’t say that I was a fan of Irish music before experiencing this, but I am now. I can’t vouch for every performer they have, but the gentleman that performed on New Year’s Eve was EVERYTHING!!!! I felt like I was in Ireland!!!
With all this being said, I only have one little gripe and that it that our room was a bit cold and drafty at night, especially in the bathroom. But we will DEFINITELY be back. This has become our new spot when we stay in D.C

Lovely Euro Charm, Extraordinary service, Great location!
My go to place in DC. Excellent service, European charm, and connected to one of the best bars in DC: the Dubliner, which is an authentic Irish bar with live entertainment and endless Guiness! A quick elevator trip to your room after festivities at the Dubliner. Location location location! It is located one block from Union Station, which has a Metro stop, so public transportation (the only way to get around in DC) is easy and convenient.Oh yeah, it is on Capital Hill, and can walk to many great places. Desiree is a great hostess!

Romantic Hotel: just a short walk from Union Station
This hotel is a great option for convenience and cost while being close to the sights of DC. It's nicely decorated and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again. Because I book so much through Orbitz we were upgraded and our room was a corner room with lots of windows which did make it a bit drafty. If you're prone to being chilly, ask for a room with less exposed walls and carpeted floor. Orbitz also treated us to a bag of trail mix, and little nightcap of Baileys laid out with bathrobes! Such a nice welcome! However, if we had young children we would choose a different property that better serves the little ones. Without a close Walgreens or CVS and no vending machines or snacks available, catering to the whims of hungry children might be tough. There are plenty of other hotels a short distance away by bus or subway that have free breakfast, pools, and game rooms. Save this hotel for a romantic night in DC.
Pros: friendly staff, large rooms, coffee lounge, convenient to train, Circulator bus, other buses, walking distance to Capital, comfortable bed, historical hotel, clean and updated rooms, Corner Bakery close by for breakfast items
Cons: $4 water bottles, no ice water in coffee lounge, not too many reasonably priced restaurants within a block and we didn't like the food or service at The dubliner next door, no snacks available for purchase that I could see, drafty without storm windows, not much to offer for kids.

"Very nice, very good location !!"
Not part of the "usual" chains, etc. This hotel is excellent for a visit to Washington either on business or tourism. The station as such provides you with very good train, metro and bus connections It is very near to Union Station so if you are traveling via train, you just walk a few minutes and check in. On site (irish pub/restaurant), very good. 100% recommended

"Delightful historic hotel"
Stayed my first time at the Phoenix, which was just recently refurbished. First, it's extremely convenient, located close to train station and a short walk from Capitol Hill, with many restaurants and bars close by. While the room was smaller that I'm used to compared to nearby hotels, it was very tastefully furnished, quiet and comfortable. Great showers and lighting in bathroom although water pressure was weak. The fitness room was all new and had all I needed for a good workout. A coffee lounge on the second floor was appreciated. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall great stay for the price, I'll be back!

Lovely old style hotel
Very clean and comfortable, older style but freshly done up, double glazing keeps noise down well, staff pleasant and helpful, everything in room worked, easy walk to Capitol and metro will take you to everywhere you want to go ( except the airport). Irish bar adjacent. Nothing to complain about at all! Maybe a kettle in the room... but there is a fridge. Would happily come back.

"Great for weddings"
My friend chose this hotel for her wedding party, and she got a great deal that allowed us to stay in this beautiful hotel for a fraction of the price. The refurbished interior is gorgeous and comfortable, and the central location is perfect for exploring. We also really enjoyed the attached Irish pub. The crowd there on weekend evenings can be a bit loud, but the hotel provides earplugs for light sleepers.

Location close to Capital and Union Station for Metro and quick restaurants and sundries. Loved that our window was able to open 6" or so. Very clean and fresh. This was our second stay and would return.
