Smithsonian National Zoological Park
Established by an Act of Congress in March of 1889, this Washington DC zoo became part of the Smithsonian Institute just one year later. Today, the zoo is one of the top things to do in Washington DC and welcomes more than 2 million visitors annually. Situated in Rock Creek Park, it is a scenic 163-acre zoo presenting living examples of around 2,000 animals representing almost 400 species.
