This building has welcomed visitors to Washington DC since opening on October 27, 1907. Designed by architect Daniel Burnham in the Beaux-Arts style, this building's materials include white granite and 22-karat golf leaf on the decorated ceilings. Although the building saw a decline and was almost demolished when train travel slowed, Union Station Washington DC was eventually revitalized and re-opened in 1988 as a center for entertainment as well as transportation.
